Lorain County to Expand Federal Social Services Program
Lorain County Welfare Department plans a major purchase of services program to draw between 1 million and 2 million dollars in federal funds for social services. Under the 1967 Social Security Act the department would contract with non profit and governmental agencies to deliver services. One program is already operating, with about 14 thousand dollars in federal funds aiding the Elyria YMCA for free camping for some 350 low income youths. The department monitors funded activities and funds are matched 70 percent federal to 30 percent local. A Lorain County Children Services contract is pending state approval in Columbus and slated to begin next.
