U S Navy planes wage limited counter attacks in Laos and neighboring South Vietnam. No combat troops are based in Laos and no immediate seal is planned. The operations began May 21 at the request of Laotian Premier Prince Souvanna Phouma to investigate Communist and Pathet Lao activities.

Columbia Station Girl Drowns in Farm Pond

An eight year old Columbia Station girl died in an accidental drowning Saturday evening while swimming in a pond on the John Molloy farm with sisters and her stepmother. Firemen recovered the body after a rescue effort. services set for Corrigan Funeral Home. The tragedy is listed among five Ohio drownings that weekend.

Death toll rises in Cologne school attack

Cologne reports three children killed in a berserk attack at Jane Elementary School as Walter Seifert, age 42, dies of police gunfire after wounding many. Dorothea Binner, 9, dies nine hours after the assault that burned 95 percent of victims. Seifert, a war veteran, blamed officials over a denied disability pension.

Lorain skydiver dies as chute fails to open

Gerald Kowalski 26 of Lorain dies after a parachute malfunction during a jump at Avon a half mile from the airport. A second jumper whose name was not released also jumped from 7,500 feet. Witnesses say the main chute did not open and no reserve was deployed. Kowalski was a Skydrifters member with 200 jumps and several club affiliations. Funeral details are pending.

Viet Nam Forces Repel Communist Attacks Near Saigon

Vietnamese and allied forces repelled a major Communist ambush along the Cho Gao Canal south west of Saigon. Four gunboats fought off Viet Cong ambush with returns, killing at least 23 guerrillas as government troops push toward Muong Sowi and maintain pressure on the central plain. In Laos, Pathet Lao positions near Khang Khay faced U S air strikes for three days, with reports of continued clashes and strategic moves along the Plaine des Jarres.

Lorainite Reelected Amvet State Commander in Ohio

Dale Livingston of Lorain reelected state commander of Amvets at the three day Ohio convention in Columbus. He previously filled the unexpired term after the prior commander resigned and has long served Amvet Post No. 47 in Lorain. Livingston owns Club 28 and has held multiple leadership roles. his wife is Sophia Sadowski, sister of Steve Sadowski of The Chronicle-Telegram.
