Trucker's 20 mile swim saves three aboard stranded boat

Henry Van Bouchaute, a trucker from Buena Park, swam over 20 miles from Kino Bay to reach help for two shipmates and a third crew member after a motor failure left them stranded in the Gulf of California. Mexican coast guard cutter later intervened. Van Bouchaute endured dehydration, exhaustion, burns, and exposure before rescue.

The Lorain County Metropolitan Park District expands beyond Mill Hollow and moves into nine reserve areas. Reported from Connie Davis CT describes a Civil Defense shelter drill where about 40 women and 70 to 82 years old tested communication and endurance. Participants remained calm, shelters maintained ventilation, calories and water tracked, and a daylong exercise faced temperature changes and limited activity.

Weather outlook for Northeast Ohio shows continued wet conditions with scattered thundershowers this afternoon and evening, high around 185 to 190, low tonight 64 to 69. Sunday will have considerable cloudiness and a chance of showers, not as warm as today, Lake Erie small craft thunderstorm warnings in effect. Winds from west to southwest 17 to 24 knots today and tonight, shifting to northwest 15 to 20 knots late tonight. Partly cloudy with a few showers this morning mainly in the eastern Lake Erie area.
