Compromise Basis Looms In 1938 Relief Plan Split
In Columbus on June 16 officials outlined rival House and Senate relief plans that could deadlock temporarily yet pave the way for a final compromise for 1938. The House would mortgage the future to raise about 21 million dollars, while the Senate favored extensions of taxes through 1940 and anticipated 4 million for the rest of 1938. Both sides proposed bonds against delinquent taxes and notes from anticipated liquor and beer revenues, with compromise bills to follow in both chambers.
