Outlines Of Relief Plan Taking Shape In Columbus
In Columbus on June 14, outlines of a possible four point relief program for 1938 emerged as a $14 million compromise plan. Two proposals would aid cities to raise funds, including local governments borrowing against delinquent tax collections. A Monahan bookie bill may also be pursued as relief revenue. Other ideas extend utilities and beer taxes to 1941 and draft a formula for distributing funds. Senate discussed the Lawrence tax extender bill to fund relief through 1940.
