St Mary Our Lady of the Assumption marks centennial dedication
Elyria’s St Mary Church on Fourth Street celebrated 100 years since its 1886 dedication, tracing Catholic community growth from early settlers Conrad and Peter Cavitt to growth under pastors Healy Sidley Schofield Newton and O Shaughnessy. The parish expanded with a school, rectory, convent, Guardian Angel Building, and St Marys Hall, now facing new property use after purchasing the Bittner DeCarlo Funeral Home.
