Tornadoes devastate Chicago area as four die
Tornadoes struck a Chicago suburb last night, killing four and injuring 23 as torrential rain and youth gangs terrorized motorists on the South Side. Phyllis Anderson, 51, was shot to death in a stalled car after a demand for payment to push through flooded areas. her husband Leo, 51, was critically wounded. Edward Rosen, 35, St Francis Hospital finance director, suffered a broken jaw during a separate attack. Illinois DOT closed the Dan Ryan Expressway temporarily with about 40 flooded viaducts disrupting transit. The Lemont area saw houses leveled in the eight-block storm footprint.
