Electro Alloys Workers Set on Strike After Vote

About 200 members of Local 383 AFL Molders and Foundry Workers at Electro Alloys Division of American Brake Shoe walked out after a 105 to 33 strike vote. The contract expired midnight prior, with two mediation meetings failing to produce an agreement. Pickets gathered peacefully as 125 employees reportedly showed up. A four hour work shift plan and an 8 cent per hour raise were proposed by management.

Truck Brake Lockup Ends in City Intersection Crash

Late yesterday at Second St and East Ave a Watson Trucking Co. tractor driven by Cloyd Murry of 324 West St stopped abruptly as a left turning motorist appeared. Front trailer springs broke loose. rear axle and trailer separated. air hoses ruptured. the tractor halted partly in the intersection. Two men, Kenny and Denny Watson, rolled the missing axle and wheels down the street.

Gay Acquitted On All Counts

John A. Gay 39, owner of Johnny's Lounge Bar and Bowling Alleys in Lorain, was acquitted on four counts of possession and sale of nine marijuana cigarettes after a six juror trial. Verdict delivered at 5:23 p.m. by Foreman Verne Brant. defense claimed Gay was trapped. Prosecutor Mikus led the case. Gay’s family and supporters reacted with tears and cheers.

Truck Falls Into Creek Kills 14 Paratroopers at Fort Campbell

An Army truck skidded off a bridge at Piney Fork Creek during a field bivouac killing 14 paratroopers and injuring nine others. The 101st Airborne Division unit from Fort Campbell had just returned from training when the vehicle failed to turn sharp, toppled 25 feet into the creek, and trapped most under the wreckage. Survivors recalled frantic efforts to rescue comrades as helicopters moved in to lift the injured and clear the scene.
