Cleveland June 12. The steel strike was extended today to a single Bethlehem Steel unit amid ongoing mediation by Gov. Martin L. Davey of Ohio with leaders of strike groups and executives from three firms. After a 9 12 hour session at the Columbus governor’s mansion, talks paused until Tuesday. Bethlehem, sparking protests at Monroe Michigan, had shut Cambria operations at Johnstown Pennsylvania. Bethlehem employees 65,000 across Bethlehem Pa and Sparrows Point Md.

In Cleveland on June 12 Tom M. Girdler, Republic Steel board chairman, appeared before strikers and sympathizers at a common pleas court hearing seeking to enjoin further expenditures for arms and ammunition stored in its plants. Edward Northrup of Toledo, a Republic stockholder, filed the suit alleging the purchases were made the day before the strike began. Republic contends Northrup bought ten shares just to file the action.

Warren Plant Manager Il Sacked During Strike Turmoil
Frank Flynn, manager of a Republicate plant in Warren, suffered a nervous breakdown and was removed by ambulance. He was hospitalized in nearby Youngstown as pickets protested outside the plant. The Warren unit is one of two strikebound facilities supplied by air drops. Harry H. Trautmann, 18, a West High School graduate, drowned in Big Walnut Creek while swimming. friends said he was not a strong swimmer and was swept away by swift current.
