Boston June 12 federal inquiry opened into the Fairfax Pinthis collision nine miles off Scituate. Captain Archie H Brooks said he could not be held responsible, as 47 lives were lost including 11 passengers and 14 seamen on Fairfax and 19 aboard Pinthis. Two Fairfax crew members jumped into the sea and survived.
