Cruise trippers press 50 percent refund after ship strike
In Charlotte Amalie UPI passengers aboard the Italian Carla C protest for a full refund after a strike by Italian Maritime officers halted two of five Caribbean ports. About 260 of the 600 passengers, mostly Americans, demand 0 percent less than full refund, rejecting Costa Lines’ offer of 100 dollars. The strike, which tied up the ship in Curacao, led to cancellations at Martinique and Grenada. Costa argues customers paid for seven days and received seven and a half, with alternatives including discounts on future cruises. The seven day cruise began June 3 in San Juan, costing roughly 1000 dollars per party, with base ticket prices ranging 450 to 790 dollars not including air fare.
