Residents return after gas threat at Pandy's Garden Center
Griswold Road residents evacuated for 15 hours due to a possible cyanide gas release from a $100,000 fire at Pandy's Garden Center. Five out-of-state chemical experts cleared the area and the evacuation was lifted at 1 a.m. They found no toxic gases and warned residents to report any water abnormalities. Experts say evacuation was prudent and the site will be monitored for a couple days.

Lorain executive rescues boy from pier fall
A Lorain boy, about ? years old, nearly drowned when he slipped from the municipal pier at 6 10 pm. An executive, Herman Hageman of Lorain Telephone Co, leaped into the lake fully clothed and pulled the boy to shore. The boy regained consciousness after CPR by Hageman and helpers before medics arrived. the rescue followed Mrs Hageman calling to her husband as he returned from parking his car.

Nurse saves boy's life during accident on river road
Michael Cogar seven was struck by a pickup traveling about 30 mph near East Bridge Street while returning from a nature hunt with a friend. A nurse, Mrs. Buford Shores, performed mouth to mouth resuscitation, reviving him before ambulance arrival. Michael remained in critical but improving condition after four hours of surgery at Elyria Memorial Hospital.

Kennedy says he'll run again for Senate
