American Maryknoll missionary Father Frederick A Donaghy, 51, was freed by Communist China in Hong Kong and crossed to freedom. The New Bedford Mass native was expelled for subversion after a three day summons by a Chinese official. He had previously been jailed around Christmas 1950 and released in July 1951 but denied permission to leave. Donaghy served 20 years in China and once led as bishop of Wouchow in Kwangsi before his imprisonment. He is the fifth American released in two weeks, following four jet fliers deported May 31.
