Block Increases In Taxes On Utilities
Columbus, Ohio. June 19. Efforts to raise taxes on Ohio public utilities and buses were blocked as the House Finance Committee did not recommend the Roberts Bills. One bill would raise the tax on light, gas, power and telephone companies from 1.55 to 4 percent of gross receipts, but it was voted down 12 to 1. An indefinite postponement failed 7 to 36. The second bill sought a 4 percent excise on gross receipts of interstate bus and truck operators, but was postponed 10 to 9.
