Buyouts fail to fix dairy surpluses say critics
William P. Wright, the 68 year old Florida dairy farmer, receives 6 million from a government buyout and plans to sell 3313 cows for 1.5 million as part of the whole herd dairy buyout. The program aims to cut production but is seen as ineffective by farmers and industry groups amid 12 billion pounds of expected cuts next year. Beef producers protest, arguing the policy disrupts the market and props up farmers at market's expense.

Conservation tillage gains prove effective in Ohio farming
Ohio state conservationist Harry W. Oneth notes conservation tillage and no-till have moved from novel ideas to established practice across the state. He cites 3.7 million acres using conservation tillage and adds new acreage for truck and forage crops annually. He cautions that while highly effective for erosion, these methods require broader land management systems for lasting soil protection and profit.
