Port Authority seeks Army Engineers study on adapting Lorain harbor
Lorain port officials plan to ask the U S Army Corps of Engineers for a study to adapt the harbor for larger ships. Secretary Edward C. Brohl declined timing but said the request would be soon as industrial and county leaders review long range plans. The issue stems from the 1000 ft ore carrier Barker and the East Erie Avenue bridge, which offers only 30 feet of clearance, hindering access to the harbor.
