World at a Glance opens new all water route via Great Lakes
Central Press reports a new all water freight route from New York to Chicago. The Baracoa sails 24 100 ton capacity with goods from Colombia to Jamaica and the midwest, then returns with beer to New York. A second ship Bolivia will follow. No passengers now but local workers face harsh conditions and sweat shop issues across states. No new Manhattan apartments filed in Q1 1933. Route distance about 2700 miles more than the transatlantic path.
