Congress adds 10 billion to National Guard equipment fund
The National Guard and Reserve Equipment Account has grown since 1981 and swelling to over 10 billion dollars since 9/11 as it sits outside regular budget caps. The House Appropriations Committee proposed 1.5 billion for fiscal 2016, while the White House calls the funding unnecessary. Critics call the account unregulated and “backdoor” funding that diverts money from approved budgets to parochial projects.
