Norwalk Municipal Court urged to ease county caseload
Huron County prosecutor William W. Owens testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee urging creation of a Norwalk Municipal Court to handle rising criminal dockets under Ohio’s new code. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Donald J. Pease, would give the new court countywide jurisdiction except Bellevue Lyme and Sherman townships. Proponents say it will reduce backlogs and allow 24 hour arraignments while Willard Mayor's Court would be preserved only by amendment. The measure has Norwalk City Council support, bar association backing, and is pending a committee vote within two weeks.
