Health inspectors and Midview officials investigate about 100 students who fell ill after a Thursday cafeteria meal. Tests on turkey, gravy, and potatoes were negative, with officials considering a virus. interviews with victims aim to find a common factor by next week. Some staff also sick.

Hart dies after prison heart attack following acquittal

Gene Leroy Hart, famed for his acquittal in the Girl Scout killings, died of a massive heart attack Monday inside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. The 35-year-old Cherokee had spent years in and out of prison and collapsed while jogging on prison grounds. Prison officials rushed him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead 40 minutes after the collapse.

Lake freighter burn fatal fire leaves six missing crewmen

A 700 foot Lake Superior freighter the Carrier Cliff Hall burned early today forcing abandonment by 20 crew. Six missing two oilers and two deckhands and one helmsman and one porter. Four injured transported by helicopter to Burn Center. Vessel listing and possible sinking risk near Copper Harbor. Coast Guard search aircraft and boats scoured the area.

Elyria eyes quiet Fourth as fireworks demise looms

Elyria may host a silent Fourth of July with no fireworks and no parade. Jaycees president Fitzhugh told council they cannot find a site for the fireworks display after Midway Mall and local colleges refused. Cascade Park was ruled out due to crowd control and safety concerns. The Lorain County Historical Society also canceled its parade due to difficulty assembling bands and floats.
