Fire destroys two car frame garage in Elyria home
Elyria reports its 100th fire of 1931 as flames destroyed a two car frame garage at Jacob Mur bach's home 1261 East Avenue damaging two autos and scorching the adjacent dwelling. Two goats and 15 chickens houses in the basement were unharmed. Firemen hose Company No 1 and Engine Company No 1 spent nearly an hour fighting the blaze. Damage estimate unavailable.

Big 5 Well Added to Columbia Township Fields
A new large gas well was drilled on the A. D. Crocker farm on Station Road by the Ohio Fuel Gas Company. The well flowed 3,600,000 cubic feet daily and was completed at a depth of 2,698 feet. Additional wells are being drilled as interest in the field rebounds after recent large finds nearby.

In Lorain county a burglary wave hit last night with two successful thefts and one attempted break in. Walton Ice Company at 201 Winckles Street lost nine dollars from the safe after entry through a south window. Ne Hi Bottling on West Street and Lawrence Avenues was broken into but nothing stolen. An attempted break at A G Highgate warehouse on Huron Street saw would be burglars chased off by watchman Persensky after pistol shots. Detective Sweet links the three incidents and points to two suspects, noting similar tracks at all sites. He expects arrests pending identification of under-suspicion persons.

The DO-X flying boat completed its 13 hour 18 minute Trans Atlantic flight from Porto Praia to Fernando Noronha, Brazil, landing at 12:10 a.m. local time.
