Chicago Night Life Is Exiled
Chicago’s night life is being driven outside the city as prohibition enforcement closes clubs and padlocks more than three hundred venues. Many roadhouses and eateries in Cook County have sprung up in suburbs while several downtown clubs such as Moulin Rouge Friar’s Inn and Al Tierney’s Town Club faced padlocks after patrons brought liquor from hip pockets. Circuit court of appeals upheld the padlock and the U S Supreme Court declined to review. Observation evidence has been used by federal officials to close Chicago resorts with authority in Volstead act sections against keeping liquor on premises.
