Hope Renewed Italia 15 Safe After Radio Hopes
June 5 Copenhagen reports uncertain but hopeful messages about the dirigible Italia and its 118 crew. Radio advices from Hemsoe and Lulena claim contact with the airship or ice breakers near Franz Josephland, with weak signals likely from on-board equipment. If landed on ice, Italia would rely on accumulators, explaining limited range and absence of audible airship signals.
