The Mansions and a Night in New York Notes
A narrator in a June diary entry awakens to a crowded, luxuriously grotesque hotel suite in New York. He mocks the lavish rooms, mocks the guests and staff, and rails against the pretensions of modern urban living while contrasting it with memories of Maine and old comforts. The piece threads personal discontent, satire, and travelogue in a vivid, stream of consciousness voice.
