Elyria's Settlement House a Key in City Progress
The Elyria Social Settlement Association shaped Western Heights in early 1900s Elyria. Immigrants faced unsanitary, crowded conditions. the group built a settlement house on Vulcan Street, offered English, schooling, and health services, and spurred neighborhood improvements and Americanization efforts led by Miss Helen Garay and Miss Edith Gill.
