Wayne Hays seeks last hurrah in Ohio House bid
A Bellaire Ohio Kiwanis audience hears former congressman Wayne Hays, longtime Democratic power in southeastern Ohio, announce a bid for the Ohio House of Representatives two years after his Washington retirement. He seeks cross over GOP votes in a six candidate Democratic field, citing retirement unease and desire to stay active. He notes his past House Administration chair role and recounts the Elizabeth Ray affair as a remembered distraction rather than a defining point. He plans to campaign despite a slim chance of defeating better organized rivals in the June 6 primary.
