Singing Brakeman Jimmie Rodgers celebrated at Meridian festival
Meridian Mississippi keeps Jimmie Rodgers memory alive with the yearly Jimmie Rodgers Music Festival begun in 1953, honoring the “Singing Brakeman” born in 1897. Rodgers, first Country Music Hall of Fame inductee in 1961, became RCA’s top artist, yet fought tuberculosis while shaping a life of railroad songs and humble shows.
