Bombers Reach Targets In Mock Raids Across Detroit Area

DETROIT A mock raid by 200 B 29 Superfortresses of the strategic air command simulated a precision attack on Detroit’s industrial core. A defense of 40 jet fighters led by Lt Col David Schilling failed to halt the raid, though interceptors nabbed some aircraft. The exercise, flying at 28000 feet, involved crews from nine western bases and emphasized improved air force capabilities since the New York mock raid of 1947.
