Washington June 1 Philip Grossman a Chicago saloon keeper imprisoned for contempt of court was ordered released on bail by the United States Supreme Court which will hear arguments why his release should not be made permanent in a pardon. Judges Wilkerson and Carpenter in Chicago had held him for one year for contempt after ruling the president lacked power to pardon in court contempt. The court also ruled that vinegar labeled apple cider vinegar violates the pure food and drugs act. The Commissioner of Internal Revenue authority to limit liquor prescriptions was partially upheld.

Victims Die As Freight Collides With Passenger Train
Two young men, Ray Esker of Fremont and Thomas H. Broderick of Fremont, died when a Wheeling & Lake Erie freight collided with a passenger train at Castalia at noon. Chester Richards of Fremont was seriously injured and hospitalized. Dozens were injured, many scalded by live steam as cars telescoped. President J E Taussig led rescue operations and investigations.
