Team cracks 257 foot depth in WW II fighter salvage

CHAMBLEE Ga AP Adventurers hunting six P 38 fighters buried under Greenland ice cap reached the first plane as a 4 foot diameter probe struck the twin engine aircraft early Sunday. Oil dripped from melted ice signaling proximity to the crankcase. The Greenland Expedition Society leader said the depth surprised them and work will continue to enlarge the cave and recover the plane for surface transport.
