Channel plan to divert Ohio River floods to Lake Erie

Carl T. Dietz, a former Canton resident and Carnegie Tech alumnus, proposed a flood control channel from Rochester Pa to Lake Erie. The 102 mile route would reuse the Beaver Mahoning Grand rivers and Indian Creek valleys with an average depth of 200 feet and widths from 200 to 700 feet, at an estimated cost of 365 million dollars. Lake Erie lies 109 feet lower than the Ohio River at Rochester.
