Congress moves to finalize President Reagan’s 33 month 25 percent across the board tax package. The first year delivers a 5 percent apparent cut, but real relief is small for income under 10,000 as inflation and Social Security deductions offset gains. The package phases in 1.5 percent in 1981, 10 percent in 1982, and 10 percent in 1983 for a total 25 percent cut by 1983, with higher earners receiving larger decreases. For a family of four with two adults working and two children, a $15,000 income would see a sizable tax reduction from current liability.
Akron report shows Ohio Edison settles for a 9.2 percent increase costing the average residential customer about four dollars more per month.
