A Lorain couple, Paul A. Meyer and Dayle A. Meyer both 38, die when their station wagon is broadside by a State Highway Patrol cruiser on Rt 113 and Gifford Road. Seven others are injured including the Meyers' three children and the Melias. Patrol officers Gerald Burton and Christopher Pressler were treated after the crash. Three men armed with submachine guns exchanged fire with police outside the Iraqi Embassy in Paris. Two gunmen barricaded inside reportedly took four or five embassy staff hostage on the second floor while a third fled. An employee said there was no confirmation of any injuries four hours after the attack as police sought the barricaded men.
Ugandan leader Idi Amin will temporarily hand over control of Uganda to wife Miss Sarah while he competes as a racing driver. Medina Amin will govern in his absence as Amin joins the Economic War Motor Rally beginning August 4, with Amin in his Citroen Maserati and wearing his red cap and jacket.
