Lorain County Child Welfare Board, at its July 28 meeting, opposed merging with the County Welfare Department. In a letter to county commissioners the board said consolidation would weaken services to children, reversing four of five members’ prior positions. Collision Fatal To Cleveland Man In Lorain
A Cleveland man, Arthur Snyder, 63, died at St. Joseph's Hospital Lorain after a 5:30 pm crash near Routes 611 and 58. He was a passenger in a car driven by Jacob Kozel, 36, of Cleveland. The vehicle struck a Service Creamery truck as it exited a Drive In. Snyder suffered a skull fracture. Kozel and truck driver Albert Kohart Jr., 30, were treated and released.

Freight Car Fire Delays Rio de Janeiro Machinery Shipment
A B and O Railroad flat car on a Grafton siding caught fire at about 7 30 am. The car carried machinery bound for Rio de Janeiro Brazil and had been moved off the main line due to a hot box. Fire fighters battled the blaze with chemicals and water as the wooden boxed machinery burned. Damages could not be estimated.

In the largest night strike of the Korean War, 63 B-29s from Okinawa and Japan bombed the Oriental Light Metals plant near Sinuiju four miles from the Chinese border.
