Four Georgia prison escapees nabbed in North Carolina stand off ends
Three fugitives surrendered after tear gas was used at a Lake Wylie house. A fourth, later identified as Troy Leon Gregg, was found dead in a Gaston County reservoir. Other arrested included Timothy McCorquodale Johnny L Johnson and David Jarrell. An Outlaws gang member, William Flamont, was held for questioning.

Truck driver and magician charged in Freeway Killer case
Los Angeles prosecutors arraigned William Bonin a 33 year old trucker and Vernon Butts 22 a magician on charges of 14 murders plus robbery sodomy and mayhem in the Freeway Killer spree dating from 1972 to five Southern California counties. Bonin and Butts sought delays with arraignments set for August. Authorities say at least two other suspects may exist among the 41 known victims all young males strangled tortured or sexually mutilated. Susan Atkins remains denied parole.
