Fight To Block Death Blow To Labor Bill
Washington July 30 Administration leaders fought to ward off a threatened death blow to the pending wages and hours bill that might disrupt the entire pre adjournment program. The labor standards bill sponsored by Sen Hugo L Black appeared likely to become key to adjournment as readers of the AFL favored sending it back to committee. The outcome of a motion to kill the measure for this session by returning it to labor was in doubt. Admin strategists admitted they could muster only a five vote margin against such a motion. House members were called to an emergency meeting by a non partisan committee to block adjournment until the labor bill is enacted. The Administration seeks to push labor standards and other items before adjournment while opposition grows. Recommitment of the bill could affect sugar regulation and the 796000000 housing bond issue backed by major blocs. No definite plan for recommittal was disclosed though many senators urged support. AFL leaders’ position was expected to be clarified with possible presidential intervention. John L Lewis was considering a statement. William Green reportedly preferred recommittal.

Theft Of Sheep Is Partially Solved In Medina County
Sheep and lambs stolen from M. A. Pletcher’s Route 2 farm were found on Henry Aurbaugh’s Brunswick property in Medina County. Aurbaugh bought seven head from Royal Keller for 40 dollars, who had bought them from a man and a woman. Keller repaid the 40 dollars to Aurbaugh. The animals were identified as Pletcher’s and returned. The farm straddles Cuyahoga and Lorain counties, with the barn theft occurring near the county line.
