Business and Professional Women's club marks 50th anniversary
Members and guests celebrated the 50th anniversary at a July 18 reception at New London Grange Hall with attendees from Ashland Norwalk and honored guests including Irene Bailey one of the original 39 charter members. A state citation praised the club for serving the community as it plans its next meeting Sept 28 at Windy Acres Apartments New London.

Man Drowns In Pond In Medina County
A 19 year old Wooster man drowned Tuesday night in a 10 foot deep pond behind a Beck Road home in York Township Medina County. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Richard Hill of the Erhart Fire Department. The name was withheld pending family notification. The drowning occurred after he tried to catch a dog that went into the water to chase ducks around 9 pm. No additional information was released Tuesday evening.

Wendy's evacuated after overheated air conditioning incident
Elyria firefighters responded to Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburger Restaurant at 310 Griswold Road after a smoking overheated air conditioning unit prompted an evacuation of about a dozen people. No fire occurred though smoke was detected. damage estimated at 300 dollars.

Lorain Woman Sentenced in Child Sex Case
Dawn M. Fox of East 28th Street was sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to gross sexual imposition involving a 4 year old boy in Elyria. Judge Thomas Janas ordered her to register as a sexually oriented offender for 10 years post release. The incident reportedly occurred at an Elyria apartment between January 1995 and January 1996.
