School levy decision delayed after committee report
A citizens committee formed to study a possible operating levy for the city schools presented findings at the August 11 Board of Education meeting. Superintendent Paul Murphy noted the group was created after the board decided to lay off 14 teachers for the 1986-87 year to close a projected $630,000 deficit. The 9.8 mill levy approved in 1983 would bring about $1.2 million yearly.
