Columbia Gas Rates Rise 15 Percent This Fall

Columbia Gas customers will see bills rise up to 15 percent this fall and winter, driven by higher natural gas prices allowed under the 1978 act. Elyria division manager Paul E. Fackler cites decontrol aims to spur production, with 30 percent more new wells this year. Senator Metzenbaum criticizes the hike as far above projected increases and accuses utilities of exploiting price decontrol.

Two Shot Incidents During Rock World Series Concert

In Cleveland police battled disturbances as thousands of youths gathered for the World Series of Rock at Municipal Stadium. Two men were shot and hospitalized, one in the chest, the other in the abdomen, while dozens were arrested. Officers faced rock-throwing but no serious injuries occurred. A 150-foot boat was cut loose and later retrieved by the Coast Guard. The concert, featuring Ted Nugent and Aerosmith, was to run through the day with gates opened early to restore order.

LaGrange youth questioned in Grafton stabbing case

A 16 year old from LaGrange is held at the Lorain County Detention Home after Lorain County Sheriff's deputies captured him in connection with the July 19 robbery of Village Sweet Shop in Grafton in which clerk Marilyn Jankowski was stabbed and gravely wounded. Police plan a juvenile court hearing Monday to determine probable cause and possible detention.

Five Avon Lake families to keep homes after settle ment
