Tragic Elyria Couple Die In Head On Crash On Rt 20

Michael Melnyczuk and his wife Lena, both residents of Elyria, died after their car left center and struck a van near Hale Road in Carlisle Township. David A. Wilson, driver of the van, was treated for injuries at Oberlin hospital. State troopers cited no skid marks and noted ongoing investigation into the loss of control. Inflation surges in June, with food and housing costs driving a 0.9 percent rise and a 10.4 percent annual rate through mid 1978. The CPI stood at 195.3, signaling substantial price gains for 1967 to 1978 base.

Thumper the rabbit swims with family in New Hampshire

USS shuts Central Furnaces in Cleveland affecting 300 workers

The Lorain U.S. Steelworks plans to absorb about 300 employees from the Central Furnaces in Cleveland when the plant closes on September 30. Other workers will transfer to local U.S. Steel facilities or retire as EPA rules and weak pig iron demand drive the decision.

Fairgrounds Expand to 90 Acres in Wellington Lorain County

Lorain County Agricultural Society expands the Wellington fairgrounds by 54.33 acres, purchased this spring from Stanley Glavich at $2,500 per acre for a total of $135,825. The new land, located west of Pitts Road, will boost the grounds to over 90 acres and may be used for parking this year. Weather shows clear tonight with upper 50s lows and warm Saturday highs around 80.
