The district says it has hired 600 teachers annually for three years and recruited nationwide, including 15 from India, to meet demand. It serves 40,000 students across St Lucie County and just opened two new K through 8 facilities. Despite filling many slots, 151 teaching jobs remain empty and hundreds more may be needed next year.
