Jets make final offer on Namath contract terms
New York Jets president Phil Iselin says the team has offered Joe Namath far more money than any pro football player to date but will not exceed what he calls the bottom line. Namath and his lawyer have held talks while Namath visits Tuscaloosa, with no breakthrough, and Iselin expects an eventual agreement. The Jets stress open communication as Namath seeks a two year deal around one million dollars, while the team has offered about 400 thousand dollars per year. The team opens the exhibition schedule August 9 in Phoenix against Minnesota, with Iselin noting the need to stay sharp in real games.
