Prospect mass murder case shocks Connecticut

Tanker pumped to avert oil spill near New Orleans

UPI reports workers pumped water from the burning Daunt Jess Colcotronis, a 673 foot tanker carrying about 13.3 million gallons of oil, to prevent a spill into the Mississippi River. The vessel, anchored 10 miles downriver from New Orleans, had its deck six inches above the water after a fire damaged its engine room. Coast Guard spokesman Larry Fair said pumping began shortly after anchoring.
