George Green wood council president outlined weekly garbage collection for residents and merchants, with a village dump closure at 6 p.m. July 31 and a shift to limited burning rules. A Lorain collector will handle pickups until September, then heavier items and a fall cleanup week.
Ohio officials warned of record low stream flow and groundwater by late summer. They urged municipal managers to inventory supplies and enforce conservation as recharge remains insufficient. Wellington boosted its reservoir capacity, but Elyria and Lorain face tighter pumping limits while smaller communities rely on surface water and storage.
Earl J. Lance owner of the Earl J. Lanes Motor Co in Elyria says he has signed to be the new Packard motor cars agent. He announced the Detroit contract signing and that the display of the new line will start next week with a formal showing to follow in a couple of weeks.
A city owned water department truck collided with a company truck near Cleveland Street and Olive yesterday afternoon, causing about 300 dollars in damage to the city vehicle. L. H. Popp, 59, of 321 Gulf Road, a local contractor, reported rib and neck pains but refused hospital care. Ray L. Herrington, 56, of 205 Hawthorne Street, who drove the city vehicle, said braking failed before the rear impact. The crash also caused Popp’s truck to nudge the car in front, though that vehicle was not listed in the report. No charges were filed.
A 18 year-old woman Ellen M Hayes of Elyria was westbound on Rt 6 when Paul Fenselaw aged 60 from Cleveland pulled from Rt 611 into her path. Hayes suffered a slight injury and both cars were moderately damaged. Fenselaw was arrested for failing to yield right of way and will face Lorain Municipal Court.
A TOMAH Wisconsin truck driver diverted to a side road to bypass weighing at the state truck station on Thursday and crashed into a ditch. He later learned the state Traffic Patrol was not weighing trucks that day.
Lt. Robert Morgan, 28, of Wilkes Barre, Pa., facing a special court martial on charges of dereliction of duty for allegedly ordering a mass punishment of 225 trainees at Fort Dix last June 21. Prosecutor Lt. Charles Rogers said the formation caused trainees to pass out, with some forced into front leaning push ups. Morgan could face up to two thirds base pay for six months or a reprisal. his former sergeant Richard Witbeck also faces charges. Lt. Col. Lawrence Johnson led the board.
A2/c Howard Seiling, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Seiling of 148 Erie St, is stationed at a newly opened Air Force base as of June 12. His new address is A2/c Howard Seiling AFI577199 HQ 8th Air Div ARW&C McClellan AFB Sacramento California. His prior address was 93rd Fighter Intercept Squadron at George AFB California.
