County commissioners will consider bids Monday for 200 tons of coal to heat the courthouse and county jail. The contract is usually let in summer to secure better prices, officials said.

Youngstown Sheet & Tube will double ingot production next week and recall many workers.
Geneva July 23 The general commission adopted a resolution adjourning the World Disarmament Conference until autumn and directing continued negotiations during the summer recess. The vote was 41 to 2 with eight abstentions. The conference adjourned at 12 40 p m and set September 21 for the steering committee next meeting with a four month reassembly deadline.
Lorenzo Todd 63 of 249 Fifth Street recalls 41 years with the United States Railway Mail Service ending with retirement on July 10. He worked nights, including a decade on the Twentieth Century Limited between Cleveland and Albany, never missing a serious wreck. He now sleeps days and stays up until dawn around four or five.

The county building commission will meet Monday afternoon to approve several bills. It is expected the meeting will discuss the possibility of disbanding the commission.
Washington July 23 The government plans to mobilize up to 2 billion dollars in credit to prevent foreclosures and spur new home building for small and mid sized homes under the Home Loan Bank system. Eight to twelve discount banks will back mortgages up to 60 percent, aiding owners facing foreclosure and boosting construction with funds from the Reconstruction Corporation.
An open air hospital concert for crippled children drew a large audience last night. The orchestra performed on the sun porch while all the children were brought outside to watch, funded by the American Federation of Musicians and several younger non members who donated their services.
A man named Joseph Koscinski from Grafton was captured by armed farmers at about 2 a.m. for stealing chickens from Fred Gaiske on Indian Hollow Road. His escape attempt ended when a shotgun blast from Gaiske’s gun flattened a tire and stopped the truck. Deputies Forest Adams and Jack Breagger later took the family to jail after they arrived. Koscinski pleaded guilty before Justice Joseph Petro and was fined $50 plus costs.
Heat wave that blanketed thirty states began to ease as cool winds and rain storms pushed temperatures down from near 100 degrees after two weeks of heat. The toll neared 275 deaths from drowning and prostration, with some western areas and Central Indiana still hot. Forecasters expect abatement over the weekend.
Harry Carino of Wellington sues Frank Hammond for 5000 alleging injuries from an assault in Wellington on July 2. Carino says Hammond shot him in the abdomen while he and Felix Fuller escorted two girls home. Fuller was shot in the leg. Hammond was bound over to the grand jury on a shooting charge.
Three masked robbers held up the Hamlet State Bank at Hamlet Ohio seizing $2000. Cashier J W Panning and assistant Walter Jackson were moved to a back room with a gun while accomplices took the money. A man and a woman who entered during the holdup were forced into the rear room. Police hunted the trio along river road toward Deshler, Ohio, after the getaway.
Police and deputies arrested two men about 1 30 a m on a charge of suspicion when found near Travelers Inn on Oberlin road attempting to enter the building. One man, Ira, is held in the county jail.
A crowd of over a score urged salary cuts and a smaller budget during Elyria’s joint council hearing on next year’s budget. The proposed operating cost stood at 279030 dollars, with auditors noting no salary cuts planned. Rankin led the push, urging Mayor Van Oster to start by trimming his own pay, while the mayor defended cooperation and factory growth as keys to tax relief.
