Utilities here cost more than state average
Consumers in the Elyria Lorain area pay about 36 to 8 dollars more per month for utilities than the state average based on a Consumers Counsel study. The study shows eight major cities average 13.71 monthly and 17 smaller cities 145.35 with Elyria at 151.83 and Lorain at 155.5. The report notes gas rates drive much of the difference and that smaller cities use different rate structures set by utilities or the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. Among major cities Toledo leads at 15.20, while Canton remains the lowest at 12.34 with varied changes year over year.
