In this health column Dr. Claud North Crisman urges immediate diphtheria precautions as schools reopen. He notes diphtheria remains a major threat and stresses vaccination for all non immune children. Transmission can occur via milk toys books and even seemingly healthy animals.
The text warns that many children and some adults carry diphtheria germs in the nose and throat without symptoms, spreading the disease. Early stage cases often seem mild but spread quickly, underscoring the need for early antitoxin treatment to prevent severe after effects like palate paralysis, throat inflammation, and heart inflammation.
The article advocates early antitoxin vaccination for diphtheria protection in children, noting immunity takes two to six months. It argues夏 vacation is ideal for vaccination, as a slight fever afterward need not cause school absence.
