Feldstein proposes opt out of Social Security for private plans

Former Reagan adviser Martin Feldstein told a House subcommittee that Social Security is no longer a good deal for most workers and that many should be allowed to rely more on private pensions and IRAs. He argued opting out could apply to payroll taxes for those investing in government bonds or corporate securities. He emphasized protecting those who would save too little for old age as demographic pressures grow.

Harshaw Strike Ends With Tense Comeback in Elyria

In Elyria the Harshaw/Filtrol Partnership and International Chemical Workers Local 73 reached a contract after a tense strike. Union President Robert Vincent calls the deal bad and says the company fired six workers and suspended 13 for strike actions, while plant manager Horace Love defends discipline and says the pact brings three years of stability.
