The Lorain County recorder William G. Mitchell reports 2494 deeds recorded in the year ending June 30. Totals reach into millions, though exact sums are uncertain as most deeds name only one dollar. Agricultural, city lots, leases, and mortgages are itemized with acres and dollar amounts.
Norman Voss a 26 year old rookie patrolman recounts how a small cry directory in his pocket diverted a robber's bullet during an attempted holdup at a filling station. The bandits fled as Voss remained unharmed despite a bullet piercing his coat and hitting the directory.
Samuel H. Halle, president of Halle Brothers Company, received a letter demanding 2500. Authorities said no threat was included and no follow up letter has arrived. It is the sixth extortion letter received by Cleveland Heights residents recently.
The council last night approved an ordinance authorizing the service director to buy 559 tons of bituminous patching material to repair Elyria streets. Councilman G W Smith suggested the city procure the ingredients and perform mixing with city labor.
