Closing small-town post offices among money-saving ideas
Washington AP report on a presidential commission proposal to close money-losing post offices, especially in small towns, and expand flexible rate setting. The plan favors delivering services via kiosks in malls and shops, with local input and potential real estate sales or donations to communities. The panel seeks 45 day Congress review and notes parallels to a McHugh bill while stressing minimal rate hikes and avoiding subsidizing monopoly services.
